KidSingers
OUR STORY
For over three decades, KidSingers has been a vital creative anchor for Orange County youth, transforming lives through the power of music. We empower at-risk students to discover their voices, build profound self-esteem, and cultivate a deep sense of community pride through exemplary musical education and elite performance opportunities. Beyond artistic excellence, we are deeply committed to our students' futures, offering a unique college scholarship incentive that turns musical dedication into higher education pathways. At KidSingers, we aren't just teaching choral artistry—we are building the next generation of confident, community-minded leaders.
Mission Statement
To empower Orange County youth to cultivate singing artistry, build self-esteem, and achieve a sense of community accomplishment through exemplary musical education, performance opportunities, and college scholarship incentives.
Background Statement
Since 1997, across nearly three decades of award-winning seasons, KidSingers has operated with a singular purpose: providing high-quality choral training and performance opportunities as a vehicle for holistic youth development. While situated within one of California's most affluent regions, our primary service footprint faces complex socioeconomic challenges. Rapid economic transitions, shifting housing affordability, and local transit infrastructure overhauls place intense pressure on families, putting many local youth at risk of isolation or displacement.
In the face of these shifting landscapes, KidSingers remains a resilient anchor, utilizing music education to teach the invaluable skills of self-mastery and mutual respect. Generationally, KidSingers has come full circle, as former participants return to guide our future. In 2022, the organization expanded its capacity by hiring a full-time Program Manager, Itsai Casillas. A former KidSinger who experienced the profound wrap-around support of this community firsthand after a personal tragedy at age 16, Itsai went on to graduate from college and now streamlines our daily operations. This alumni leadership extends to our Board of Directors, which now features multiple former singers driving our strategic vision forward.
Impact Statement
While many youth initiatives face disruption, KidSingers delivers consistent, measurable qualitative outcomes that serve as a localized solution to the ongoing national youth mental health and social isolation crisis. Supported by a dedicated artistic and operational team, KidSingers executes over 260 hours of rigorous, specialized instructional rehearsals annually. These intensive sessions culminate in elite public performances across Southern California, including singing the National Anthem at Angel Stadium and headlining high-profile community showcases.
Utilizing the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Instrument—the gold standard of youth assessments—alongside internal evaluation metrics, our program consistently documents extraordinary growth across our student cohorts:
97% of Participants developed expanded social skills through collaborative musicianship.
87% of Youth demonstrated a significant increase in self-esteem and positive self-evaluation.
85% of Students reported a marked increase in personal confidence.
80% of Singers demonstrated increased cross-cultural competence and deep respect for diverse populations.
75% of Enrolled Youth achieved advanced musical aptitude and a measurable increase in family unity.
65% of Students reported greater academic and classroom speaking confidence.
Needs Statement
KidSingers operates as a lean, independent grassroots organization without the institutional "umbrella" funding enjoyed by national youth non-profit networks. While the actual cost to provide our comprehensive music education, costuming, and mentorship is $3,000 per student annually, we heavily subsidize this by charging families a maximum processing fee of just $125 to $175 per season, ensuring no child is ever turned away due to financial constraints.
To bridge this gap and successfully transition from a seasonal revenue cycle into a highly predictable operational framework, KidSingers has identified five pressing strategic needs:
1. Core Program Funding: Securing unrestricted operational dollars to directly cover the cost of professional artistic staff, music literature, student transportation, and instructional materials.
2. Multi-Channel Financial Sustainability: Building a reliable base of multi-year individual commitments and institutional matching grants.
3. Modernized Philanthropic Development: Actively expanding into high-growth giving vehicles, including Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) and philanthropic venture funds.
4. Strategic Cross-Community Recruitment: Cultivating intentional recruitment pathways that bring together youth from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, fostering unique integration on our stages.
5. Dedicated Rehearsal Spaces: Securing stable, acoustically viable, and community-accessible venues to house our expanding multi-tier choral rehearsals.
Geographic Areas Served
Historically anchored in the urban core of Santa Ana (primarily covering ZIP codes 92701 through 92707), KidSingers serves an area marked by high population density, economic barriers, and systemic hardships. In recent years, our operational model has evolved to mirror the broader shifting demographics of central Orange County.
While our administrative hub remains firmly in Santa Ana, KidSingers has strategically expanded its recruitment pathways to include adjacent municipalities, including Tustin, Garden Grove, Orange, and Anaheim. Our regional expansion has successfully transformed our choral stages into vibrant spaces of cross-community integration. By intentionally bringing together youth from these distinct neighborhoods, KidSingers serves as a powerful bridge—breaking down local isolation and fostering a unified environment where diverse students share a singular, transformative artistic experience.

Statement from the CEO/Executive Director
"When I founded KidSingers in 1997, it was born out of a profound belief that every child deserves access to the transformative power of the arts. Having spent over 50 years devoted to professional singing and choral conducting, I saw a severe gap forming in local schools due to sweeping budget cuts in music education. I chose to invest my own personal resources and severance capital to build an educational outreach initiative that would give our community's children a safe space to find their voices.
Nearly three decades later, I still lead our rehearsals each week. One of our most intentional goals is providing strong, positive mentorship that challenges societal stereotypes about young men participating in the arts. The ultimate validation of our mission lies in the extraordinary life trajectories of our alumni. A defining example is Huver Miranda, a former singer who enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon earning his military educational benefits, Huver chose to donate his entire $4,500 KidSingers college scholarship back to the program so it could fund another deserving student. Standing before our audience at a recent concert, he closed his remarks with an unforgettable statement: 'The Marines didn’t make me a man; KidSingers did.' It is the honor of my life to see our singers look back at our stage as the foundational experience that shaped them into resilient adults."
Statement from the Board Chair/President
"I have had the privilege of serving on the KidSingers Board of Directors for 17 years, including the last 11 as Board President. My journey began when I attended our annual Holiday Concert at the Richard Nixon Library. I was immediately captivated. On that stage, I witnessed a profound transformation: a beautiful, unified choir of youth performing with elite musical precision. The following spring, I listened to our graduating seniors read their scholarship essays, outlining their higher education goals. For the vast majority of these young people, our scholarship incentives represent the bridge that allows them to become the very first in their families to attend college.
This generational impact ripples outward into entire families, serving as a powerful protective factor that anchors youth to a safe, positive peer group. Beyond my role as Board President, I serve as the Head of Human Resources for Griswold Industries. I am incredibly proud that our corporation provides critical baseline stability to KidSingers through an annual general operations contribution of upwards of $20,000. As our company's leadership transitions toward a new generation of corporate decision-makers, KidSingers continues to command the exact same deep institutional respect and financial commitment. When you invest in KidSingers, you are backing a proven, generationally sustainable ecosystem of youth leadership, corporate trust, and community empowerment."
