Outpatient Clinics
WYS provides mental, behavioral and emotional health services to more than 4,000 families annually at one of our four outpatient clinics in Anaheim, Fountain Valley, Santa Ana and Mission Viejo. In 2023 we’ve increased capacity by 30% and are opening a second clinic in Santa Ana. The clients served in these clinics are among the most vulnerable of our local population and are referred to us when facing crises. WYS provides outpatient services primarily for Orange County Medi-Cal eligible clients up to age 21. Individualized and solution-focused services are provided at a level, frequency and duration consistent with each client’s treatment goals. Services include but are not limited to clinical interventions, clinical and psycho-diagnostic assessment, family therapy, crisis intervention, treatment planning, discharge planning, case management, mediation support, Therapeutic Behavioral Services, peer support, and advocacy. In addition, collateral services may be provided to support and educate our client’s adult caregiver(s). These services are publicly funded.
WYS obtained Youth Outcome Questionnaire (YOQ) change scores from 1,256 unique clients served through the Outpatient Clinics. Among these clients, the majority of clients present as “healthy” or reliably improving after initially experiencing significant impairments in mental health functioning. To help better understand the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on our clients, WYS conducted analyses during the pandemic to assess client changes in functioning before and after the rapid onset of COVID-19 in mid-March 2020. Interestingly, we found significant improvements in client functioning after WYS’ shift to virtual service offerings in response to the pandemic. We will continue to adapt our service offerings in response to our rapidly changing environment to ensure our clients have access to much needed clinical support during these difficult times.
One Door Any Door® Access Coordination
Western Youth Services’ One Door Any Door® Access Coordination program helps children, youth, and families overcome barriers to care through personalized support, navigation, and connection to critical behavioral health and community resources. Access Coordinators provide immediate support through screening, triage, skill-building, guidance, and supportive case management. Using a whole-person approach, they assess needs that extend beyond behavioral health—including physical health, housing, food, childcare, transportation, financial resources, and insurance—and help families access services that best meet their unique circumstances. Rather than simply providing a referral, Access Coordinators remain a consistent source of support throughout the navigation process. With extensive knowledge of community resources and eligibility requirements, they help families overcome barriers, navigate complex systems, and facilitate warm handoffs to care. Support continues for as long as needed to help families successfully connect with appropriate services. The program recognizes that a child's well-being is closely connected to the stability and well-being of the entire family. By addressing social determinants of health alongside behavioral health needs, One Door Any Door® helps close gaps in the service delivery system, strengthen protective factors, reduce the effects of toxic stress, and build resilience. While our primary focus is children, youth, and families seeking care, the One Door Any Door® model is designed to help anyone who comes to WYS seeking support—because every door should be a pathway to help. During FY 2025–26, Access Coordination served 1,034 individuals and families.
During Fiscal Year 2025–26, Western Youth Services' One Door Any Door Access Coordination Program served 1,034 children, individuals, and families, providing a centralized point of entry to behavioral health, healthcare, and community-based services. By offering personalized navigation and care coordination, the program helped participants overcome barriers associated with complex service systems, ensuring they were connected to the right resources quickly and efficiently.
Through successful referrals and warm handoffs, the program strengthened access to essential services that address both behavioral health needs and the social determinants of health. These coordinated efforts increased family stability, strengthened protective factors, and built resilience, empowering children and families to access the support they need to achieve improved health, well-being, and long-term success.
Behavioral Health & Wellness Training
Western Youth Services’ Behavioral Health & Wellness Training program equips professionals, organizations, schools, first responders, and community members with practical skills to recognize and respond effectively to behavioral health needs. Building on decades of WYS experience in children’s behavioral health and years of delivering large-scale community training initiatives throughout Orange County, our trainings translate behavioral health knowledge into practical strategies participants can use in their everyday work and interactions. Training topics include trauma-informed care, de-escalation, suicide prevention, Mental Health First Aid, resilience, youth and family engagement, compassion fatigue, behavioral health awareness, and other topics supporting healthier individuals and communities. Trainings can be customized based on an organization’s audience, setting, challenges, and goals and may be delivered in person or virtually. Through a fee-for-service model, WYS partners with schools, nonprofits, businesses, public agencies, first responders, and other organizations to strengthen the capacity of the people who interact with children, families, and community members every day.
Western Youth Services' Behavioral Health & Wellness Training Program equips professionals, organizations, and community members with the knowledge and skills needed to better recognize, understand, and respond to behavioral health challenges. Through evidence-based training, participants gain a deeper understanding of mental health needs, increased confidence in identifying individuals who may benefit from support, and practical strategies for effective communication and de-escalation in a variety of settings.
The program also promotes the adoption of trauma-informed practices and increases awareness of available behavioral health resources, enabling participants to connect individuals and families with appropriate services more effectively. By strengthening organizational capacity and fostering environments that prioritize behavioral health and wellness, the training helps reduce stigma surrounding mental health and encourages earlier intervention, compassionate support, and help-seeking behaviors throughout the communities we serve.
Community Care Coordination (CCC)
Western Youth Services’ Community Care Coordination program provides Enhanced Care Management (ECM) to children, youth, and families with complex health, behavioral health, and social needs. The program helps families navigate systems of care and connects them with the services and resources they need to achieve greater stability and well-being. Through a dedicated care manager, WYS works alongside each family to identify needs, develop individualized goals, coordinate services, and reduce barriers to care. Support may include connections to medical and behavioral health care, housing and food resources, school and community supports, benefits, transportation, and other services that affect a family’s health and quality of life. During FY 2025–26, WYS served 1,021 children, youth, and family members through Community Care Coordination. Our relationship-based, trauma-informed approach recognizes that improving health means looking beyond a single need and helping families navigate the multiple systems and circumstances affecting their well-being.
During Fiscal Year 2025–26, Western Youth Services' Community Care Coordination (CCC) Program provided comprehensive care coordination services to 1,021 children, youth, and families, helping them successfully navigate complex behavioral health, medical, and community support systems. Through individualized care planning and ongoing collaboration with providers, the program strengthened connections to critical medical, behavioral health, educational, and community-based resources, ensuring that families received timely and coordinated support tailored to their unique needs.
The CCC Program also played a vital role in improving communication and collaboration across service providers, reducing barriers that often prevent families from accessing essential care. By fostering stronger family engagement and increasing overall stability, the program helped create more consistent pathways to support while reducing the likelihood that children and families would fall through gaps between systems. These outcomes demonstrate the program's continued commitment to promoting long-term well-being and ensuring that Orange County's most vulnerable children and families receive the coordinated services they need to thrive.
